Privacy Policy
Effective September 28, 2026
Overview
This policy explains what Apex Panels ("we", "us") collects when you use the Apex Panels web control panel, the Apex Panels companion app, and an Apex Panel Mini or Apex Panel Wide display paired to your account, and why.
It applies from September 28, 2026.
Information we collect
Account information — the email, username, display name, and password you provide when you register. A phone number is optional and only used if you add one.
Location information — if you enable nearby-event alerts, we resolve an approximate "home" location, either copied from your paired display's configured weather coordinates or entered manually by you in Account Settings. This is used only to match you against public community events within the radius you choose.
Device information — details about each display you pair: its hardware identifier, firmware version, connection status, and the settings you configure for it (display mode, theme, Showcase content, Wide scenes and widgets). Pairing uses a device-generated secret so only your account can claim a given unit.
Content and communications — messages you send or receive through direct or group messaging, calendar events you create or RSVP to, and any text or layout content you configure for your display's Showcase or Wide scenes.
Notifications — if you enable push notifications, we store a device push token (issued by Apple/Google via Expo's push service) so we can deliver reminders, messages, and announcements to your phone.
Automatically collected data — standard connection information (such as IP address and request timestamps) is processed transiently by our servers to operate the service and keep it secure, in the same way most web services and APIs do.
- Your profile picture is not a photo you upload — it is a pattern generated automatically from your account ID and cannot be changed to arbitrary uploaded content.
- Showcase and Wide background imagery is curated by us, not uploaded by individual users.
How we use information
To create and secure your account, and authenticate your paired displays.
To operate the features you use — scheduled messaging, Calendar, Showcase, Wide scenes, friend/group connections, and firmware updates.
To send transactional email (verification, password-related notices) and, if enabled, push notifications.
To maintain the security and reliability of the service, including detecting abuse and debugging issues.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your information to third parties.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the service:
- Push notifications are delivered through Expo's push notification service, which relays a message to Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM) using your device's push token.
- Transactional emails are sent through our email delivery provider.
- Content you send to other users on the platform — messages, group messages, public calendar events, friend connections — is visible to those users as part of the feature's normal operation.
- We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Apex Panels, our users, or the public.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful — for example, how many visitors read a guide, or which product page they arrive on. It is the only third-party analytics or tracking tool on the site, and there are no advertising or social media trackers.
Analytics is off until you accept it. Nothing is downloaded from Google and no analytics cookie is written unless you choose "Accept analytics" on the banner, and choosing "No thanks" is remembered so you are not asked again on that browser.
If you accept, Google sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier. They last up to two years and hold a randomly generated number that distinguishes one browser from another; they do not contain your name, email, or anything you typed. Google receives the pages you view on this site, the site that referred you, and general device and browser information. Your IP address is used by Google to estimate the country or region a visit came from and is not stored in our analytics reports.
We do not use analytics data for advertising, we do not combine it with your account, and we do not sell it.
Separately from analytics, and regardless of your choice, this site stores a small amount of data in your browser that it cannot work without: your signed-in session, so you are not logged out on every page, and your light/dark theme preference. This is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for, is never used to track you across other websites, and is cleared when you sign out or clear your browser data.
Data retention
We keep account and device data for as long as your account is active, so your displays keep working and your history (messages, calendar events, scheduled content) stays available to you.
Factory-resetting a paired display removes its registration from your account and requires it to be re-paired.
To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us at [email protected].
Your choices
You can review and update your profile information at any time from Account Settings, in the web panel or the companion app.
Push notifications and nearby-event location alerts are both off-by-default-or-optional and can be toggled from Account Settings at any time.
You can unpair or factory-reset a display from the app to stop it being associated with your account.
Bluetooth and local network access
The companion app uses Bluetooth to discover and pair with an Apex Panel Mini display near you, and local network access to reach your Apex Panels backend and paired displays — both only while actively setting up or managing a display, and never to track your location.
Your data and your choices
You can download a copy of everything we hold about your account at any time — Settings → Your data → Download my data, on the web or in the app. It comes as a JSON file you can keep or take elsewhere; passwords and security keys are never included.
You can delete your account from the companion app's Settings. Deleting it removes your profile, friendships, messages and calendar events, and unpairs your displays.
Children's privacy
Apex Panels is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — including password hashing and signed access tokens — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
